How can structures that occupy defined, inflexible spaces make us feel transcendent? How can chapels become contemplative spaces? How can walls give unrestricted liberty? Director Christoph Schaub is inspired by his childhood memories to explore remarkable churches, both old and future, and uncover pieces of art that transport him to the skies and all the way down to the ocean's depths. He tries to make sense of the world and decipher our spiritual experiences using the seemingly abstract concepts of light, time, rhythm, sound, and shape, with the help of architects Peter Zumthor, Peter Märkli, and lvaro Siza Vieira, artists James Turrell and Cristina Iglesias, and drummer Sergé "Jojo" Mayer. This contemplative inquiry becomes a multi-sensory experience thanks to the excellent cinematography.
