Nickie Ferrante's return to New York to marry a wealthy heiress has been well reported. While walking home, he meets nightclub singer Terry McKay. In a few days, they've fallen in love despite their differences. Because Nickie has never worked, they arrange to meet again in six months atop the Empire State Building. This will allow them to deal with their current relationships and allow Nickie to work. He returns to painting with some success. On the specified date, Nickie patiently awaits Terry's arrival. But fate intervenes, causing confusion and anguish, and only fate can heal their romance.
