In 1933 in Berlin. Anna is only nine years old when her life completely transforms. Arthur Kemper, her father, a well-known Jewish journalist, must travel to Zurich in order to avoid the Nazis. His family, consisting of Anna, her twelve-year-old brother Max, and her mother Dorothea, soon follows him.
