This drama is based on a historical book with the same name. It shows Cromwell's rise to become Henry the VIII's closest advisor. In the 1520s, England is on the verge of calamity. If the King dies without a male heir, there could be a civil war that destroys the country. Henry VIII wants to end his 20-year marriage and marry Anne Boleyn instead. Most of Europe, including the Pope, is against him. Thomas Cromwell, a man who was both an idealist and an opportunist, knew how to read people well and was determined to get what he wanted, walked into this mess. But Henry is hard to predict.
