When Till Death Us Do Part was first shown in 1965, it was a groundbreaking British sitcom that lasted until 1975. The sitcom ran for seven seasons on Comedy Playhouse before being cancelled in 1975. ITV aired a continuation of the series, dubbed Till Death...., six years later. In Sickness and in Health was a BBC television series that aired from 1985 to 1992. Developed by Johnny Speight, Till Death Us Do Part depicts the East End Garnett family, lead by patriarch Alf Garnett, a white working-class man with anti-socialist sentiments who is also anti-racist. Dandy Nichols and Una Stubbs portrayed his wife Else and daughter Rita, respectively. Mike Rawlins, Rita's brilliant but slacker husband, is a communist. Mitchell played Alf Garnett until Speight's death in 1998, when the role became well-known in British culture. This film was also made in Brazil, Germany and the United States as well as the spin-off In Sickness and In Health. In the late 1960s and early 1970s, as was the policy, several episodes from the first three series were purportedly erased, leading to the conclusion that they no longer exist.
