The Samurai
Senkosha Productions made The Samurai in the 1960s. Onmitsu Kenshi was its original title. The 1962 TBS series aired for ten 13-episode narrative cycles until 1965. Two black-and-white feature films and a stage show were also produced by Toei Company in 1964. Samurai was successful despite a small budget. It was the first Japanese TV show ever shown in Australia, when it premiered in 1964 and quickly became a cult classic. Despite being famous in Australia, Japan, New Zealand, and the Philippines, the series was not extensively shown elsewhere, therefore its fame is limited to those nations. The New Samurai, a 1965 spin-off with a new main character, was discontinued after 39 episodes, compared to the original's 128. In 1973, 26 new color episodes were filmed in an aborted remake and later a short-lived revival. Takeda funded all TV shows.
