Within the DGSE (General Directorate for External Security), there is a department called the Office of Legends (BDL), which trains and controls the most important French intelligence agents from afar. Immersing themselves in a hostile country, their job is to find people who could be used as sources of information and recruit them. Operating "under cover," which means making up a new identity from scratch, they have lived for many years as two different people. Our hero has just come back from Damascus, where he was on a secret mission for six years. But, even though safety rules say he should, he won't give up his legend and the name he used in Syria.
