MTV's The Ben Stiller Show and Fox's The Ben Stiller Show, both of which aired from 1990 to 1991, were both known as "The Ben Stiller Show." Andy Dick, Janeane Garofalo and Bob Odenkirk feature in the Fox comedy. Every episode also featured the character actor John F. O'Donohue. Many of the videotaped comedic parts ridiculed pop culture from the 1980s and early 1990s. Fox canceled the show after just 12 episodes due to low viewership, despite excellent reviews. The Ben Stiller Show did not rely on a studio audience or a laugh track, which is unusual in the world of sketch comedy. A laugh track wasn't used on this show, making it the only Fox sketch comedy show to do so. The Andy Dick Show, a semi-spinoff, followed the same format. The show won the 1993 Emmy for Outstanding Writing in a Variety Series after it was canceled.
