Texhnolyze is a Japanese animated television series that was directed by Hiroshi Hamasaki, with a screenplay written by Chiaki Konaka. The series was produced by Yasuyuki Ueda, while Yoshitoshi ABe was responsible for the series' original character design. The happenings take place in the bustling yet run-down underground metropolis of Lux. The people who live in Lux refer to their home as "The City," and they think of it as a living entity. The Organo, a strictly professional conglomerate in the prosthetics business with ties to the criminal underworld, the Union, a fanatical populist group interfering with Organo's affairs, and Racan, a marauding group of Texhnolyzed youths, all compete for control of the city. The story follows a large cast of characters throughout the series, but the main focus is on Ichise, a stoic prize fighter who sacrifices his arm and leg to appease an angry promoter; Onishi, a young but level-headed executive of the Organo who is opposed by a large number of people; and Ran, a young girl who possesses a very significant gift that has an impact on the entirety of the city. The characters are witnesses to significant events that play a role in determining whether or not the city will continue to exist as they are battling the difficulties that have been brought to them. Between April 16th, 2003 and September 24th of that same year, Fuji Television broadcast a total of twenty episodes of the show Texhnolyze. There are two "unaired" episodes that can be seen on the DVD release.
