When Emery was 6, an alien spaceship crashed in the small town where she lived. No matter if the Atrians came in peace or with more sinister plans, a fierce battle broke out between humans and their new rivals, an alien species called the Atrians. During the fighting, a 6-year-old Atrian boy named Roman found his way to a shed behind Emery's house. There, she kept him safe for a while by giving him food, comfort, and friendship. Ten years later, the Atrians have gotten used to life on Earth, but they are still kept apart from humans in a camp called the Sector, which has a lot of guards. Now, for the first time, a group of Atrian teens will attend a human high school in a suburban area. The goal is to see if it is possible for humans and aliens to live together. Emery and Roman meet up again at a school and in a community that doesn't trust anything about the Atrians. Even as the world around them gets more and more angry and racist, their bond gets stronger and more dangerous.
