Soap is an American sitcom that first aired from 1977 to 1981 on ABC. The show was made to make fun of daytime soap operas at night, and it was shown as a weekly half-hour comedy show during prime time. The show's story was told in a serial format, like a soap opera, and there were melodramatic plot points like alien abduction, demonic possession, murder, and kidnapping. The Tates and the Campbells was named one of the "100 Best TV Shows of All-TIME" by Time magazine in2007. In2010, it was ranked number 17 on TV Guide's list of "TV's Top Families." The show was created, written, and run by Susan Harris. Paul Junger Witt and Tony Thomas were also in charge of the show. Before each new season, there was a 90-minute look back at the previous season. In1994, two of these looks back were made available on VHS. Over the course of four seasons, 85 episodes were shown. The last four episodes of the show were each one hour long when they were shown on ABC. Later, these one-hour episodes were cut in half, making 93 half-hour episodes that could be shown all over the country. All of the episodes can be bought on DVD for region 1 in four different box sets. In the past, the show has been shown again on local syndication channels and on Comedy Central and TV Land on cable. It was shown on Antenna TV over-the-air until December30, 2012.
