Bruce Geller is credited with the creation of the American television series Mission: Impossible as well as its early production. The Impossible Missions Force is a group of covert government agents whose exploits are detailed in this account of their missions. Dan Briggs, who is portrayed by Steven Hill and is in control of the team for the first season, hands over the reins to Jim Phelps, who is played by Peter Graves for the subsequent seasons. One of the most recognizable aspects of the show is when Briggs or Phelps gets his orders from a recording that afterwards deletes itself, which is followed by the main theme, which was composed by Lalo Schifrin. The series originally debuted on the CBS network in September 1966 and ran until March1973. It then had a brief comeback on ABC for two seasons from 1988 and1990; however, Graves was the only cast member to remain from the original run. In the years that followed, it served as the basis for a successful film franchise starring Tom Cruise, which began production in 1996.
