The British comedy-drama show Minder is about the criminal world of London. It was made by Euston Films, a branch of Thames Television, and shown on ITV. It was first made by Verity Lambert. The show ran for ten seasons, from October29,1979, to March10,1994. Dennis Waterman played Terry McCann, an honest and likeable bodyguard, and George Cole played Arthur Daley, a socially ambitious but very dishonest importer-exporter, wholesaler, used-car salesman, and any other job that could make him money, whether it was legal or not. The show was a big reason why the word "minder," which means "personal bodyguard," became common in the UK and Australia. The characters drank a lot at the local members-only Winchester Club, where the owner and bartender, Dave, often sent messages for Arthur even though he didn't want to and ignored his shady dealings. The show was known for using a number of well-known British actors as well as many up-and-coming actors before they became famous. When it was at its best, it was one of ITV's most popular shows. In2008, it was said that a new version of Minder would be made and shown in2009. However, none of the original cast would be in the new episodes. Shane Richie played Archie, Arthur's nephew. The new show was about him. The first episode aired on February4, 2009. After the first season didn't do very well, it was decided in 2010 that no more episodes would be made.
