Mental is a Fox subsidiary Fox Telecolombia television series that aired in the summer and fall of 2009 on FOX international channels for Latin America, Europe, and Asia, starring Chris Vance and Annabella Sciorra. Deborah Joy LeVine – creator of the successful drama series Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman and the Lifetime series The Division, as well as executive producer of Any Day Now, Dawson's Creek, and the CBS series Early Edition – and her brother and writing/producing partner, Dan LeVine, executive produced Mental. Following its premiere in the United States, it was broadcast in 35 other countries. On June 2, 2009, Fox Latin America aired the first episode as a "Worldwide Premiere." On May 26, 2009, Fox aired the pilot episode in the United States. Fox Television Studios has ordered 13 episodes. On June 2, 2008, production began at the Fox Telecolombia production facility in Bogotá. Despite the fact that the series was filmed in the Colombian city of Bogotá, which represented Los Angeles, no Colombian actor was cast as a regular character, and only a handful were cast for occasional appearances, due to the series' rigorous American orientation. According to TVWeek, Jacqueline McKenzie, Derek Webster, Nicholas Gonzalez, and Marisa Ramirez have joined the cast of Mental as "likely recurring characters."
