Mad Dogs is a British black comedy and psychological thriller TV show created by Cris Cole that started airing on Sky1 on February 10, 2011. It is made by Left Bank Pictures and co-produced by Palma Pictures. In the show, John Simm, Marc Warren, Max Beesley, and Philip Glenister play four middle-aged friends who get together in a villa in Majorca to celebrate the early retirement of their friend Alvo. But after Alvo is killed, the group gets caught up in the world of crime and police corruption. The series started out as a story about a rock band, but it was changed because the creators felt that bands have been "done to death." After getting interest from some terrestrial networks, British Sky Broadcasting decided to make the series. In May 2010, filming took place all over the island of Majorca. It cost about four million euros and 44 days to make. The main ideas are friendship and getting older. Glenister said it was about getting older and "getting closer to death." Photographer David LaChapelle directed three 30-second ads for the series. Mad Dogs opened with 1.61 million viewers, making it Sky1's 17th highest-rated show ever, and critics liked it. They saw similarities with British gangster movies, especially the 2000 film Sexy Beast.
