The pilot episode of the Australian television series Kick was shown for the first time on SBS TV on June9, 2007. The story takes place in Melbourne, Australia's Brunswick neighborhood. Miki Mavros, a free-spirited young woman in her twenties, is the protagonist of this book. After a series of unsuccessful attempts to "make it big," Miki is forced to return to Hope Street, where she grew up, to live with her Greek-Australian parents. Things quickly get out of hand after Miki starts working as a secretary for the dashing Anglo-Indian Dr. Joe Mangeshkar, who is seeing a woman named Jan. The name of the series comes from the fact that Miki is the manager of a neighborhood soccer club. The show also follows the exploits of Miki's neighbors on Hope Street, especially the Salim family. The Salim family is a Lebanese-Australian Muslim family with siblings Amen, Osama "Ozzie," Taghred, and Layla. Amen is an aspiring businessman who has ethics that aren't always clear cut. Osama is going through the standard struggles of adolescence, and he has a crush on Tatiana, who is a friend of Taghred's. Taghred has big dreams of becoming a famous soccer player. Layla is a student at the university, and her marriage to Sharif has been predetermined. However, everything changes when Layla develops feelings for fellow fencer Jackie.
