Instant Star is a Canadian TV show that aired from September 2004 to June 2008. Alexz Johnson played Jude Harrison, a teenager who won a music contest. The show tells the story of Harrison's time in the music business while focusing on how his characters change. The show was made by Linda Schuyler and Stephen Stohn of Epitome Pictures. The show first aired on CTV in Canada before it was picked up by The N, which is now TeenNick, a teen network owned by Viacom in the United States. It became the second most popular show on The N. The most popular show was Degrassi: The Next Generation, a Canadian show also made by Schuyler and Stohn. In 2005, after its first season, Instant Star was nominated for three Gemini Awards in the Best Children's or Young Adult Fiction Program or Series category. There were nominations for Best Series, Best Actor/Actress, and Best Direction. The episode "You Can't Always Get What You Want" from the show won the award for Best Direction. The show got three more nominations for the Best Children's or Youth Program or Series Gemini Award on August 28, 2007. Alexz Johnson was nominated again for Best Performance, and Graeme Campbell and Pat Williams were nominated for Best Direction.
