The animated television series Ghostbusters was created by Filmation and distributed by Tribune Entertainment after the success of Ivan Reitman and Columbia Pictures' 1984 feature Ghostbusters. It aired in daytime syndication from September 8 to December5,1986, and produced 65 episodes. The Ghost Busters, a live-action television show that aired in 1975, was the inspiration for the animation. It should not be confused with The Real Ghostbusters, an animated series based on the 1984 film Ghostbusters. Columbia Pictures had to buy the rights to the name from Filmation for its feature, and after the success of Ghostbusters, Filmation launched an animated series based on the characters from the series. Although the series is officially known as "Ghostbusters," home video versions referred to it as "Filmation's Ghostbusters" to avoid confusion. Qubo Night Owl and the Retro Television Network are now airing reruns of the show. The series is also available on Hulu.
