Chances was an Australian nightly soap opera that was produced between the years 1991 and 1992. It told the story of the Taylor family, who were a typical middle-class family whose lives were completely turned upside down after they won $3 million in the lottery. The Nine Network was responsible for airing the series, which consisted at first of two episodes of one hour each, each week. Principal cast members included John Sheerin and Brenda Addie in their roles as Dan and Barbara Taylor, Jeremy Sims in the role of the couple's mischievous son Alex, Deborah Kennedy in the role of Dan's sister Connie Reynolds, Tim Robertson in the role of Dan's brother Jack, Anne Grigg in the role of his wife Sarah, and Michael Caton in the role of a neighborhood friend named Bill Anderson. At first, the show's creator, Lynn Bayonas, intended for it to be a drama geared toward families. However, in order to increase the likelihood of commercial success for the program, Channel Nine insisted that explicit content and sequences be added in the series. Early marketing for the performance concentrated on the sexual component, and this became the primary facet for which Chances was recognized.
