Catherine Chandler is an intelligent and no-nonsense homicide detective. She witnessed the death of her mother by two gunmen when she was a teenager, but was herself saved by someone or something. Catherine discovers a clue while investigating a crime that leads her to Vincent Keller, who was apparently murdered in 2002. Catherine discovers that Vincent is still alive and that he was the one who saved her years ago. Vincent has been in hiding for the past ten years to protect his secret — when furious, he transforms into a fearsome beast, unable to control his super-strength and heightened senses, due to inexplicable circumstances that have compelled him to live outside of conventional society.
