Athena: Goddess of War is a 2010 South Korean espionage television drama series that is a spin-off of Iris from 2009. The two series, both with a budget of $20 billion, are among the most expensive Korean dramas ever made. The series, which starred Jung Woo-sung, Cha Seung-won, Soo Ae, and Lee Ji-ah, launched in December 2010 after filming in a variety of international locales, including Italy, New Zealand, Japan, and the United States. The series is based in the same universe as its predecessor, allowing certain characters from Iris to return.
