On NBC and Citytv in Canada, American Gladiators was an American reality show that competed against each other. Amateur athletes compete against one other and the show's own "gladiators" in challenges of strength, agility, and endurance. Hosted by Hulk Hogan and Laila Ali. There include components from the UK version from the 1990s, as well as a remake of the original series, which aired from 1989 to 1996. An ex-American League umpire named Al Kaplon refereed the show, and he also refereed Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story. Van Earl Wright provides the play-by-play narration. Season 1 was filmed in Culver City, California, at Sony Pictures Studios. The Los Angeles Sports Arena was the new location for the show's second season. There are two companies behind it: Reveille Productions and MGMT TV. The two-hour premiere of American Gladiators drew an estimated 12 million viewers on Sunday, January 6, 2008. The Season 1 finale aired on February17,2008, at 7:00 p.m. ET/PT, while the rest of the episodes aired on Mondays at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT. A two-hour episode of Season 2 aired on NBC on May 12th, 2008. On August 4, 2008, at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT, the two-hour Season 2 finale aired. In comparison to Season1, the Season 2 finale included the third semi-final round before the finals, whereas the Season 1 finale was all about the finals.
