Amanda's
The 1970s British series Fawlty Towers inspired the American sitcom Amanda's. Amanda's aired Thursday nights at 8:30 on ABC from 10 February 1983 until 26 May 1983. Bea Arthur played the lead role of Amanda Cartwright. Amanda was the proprietor of the beachside hotel "Amanda's by the Sea," whose crew comprised her son Marty, his spoilt wife Arlene, Earl the chef, and Aldo the bellboy. Since Maude ended in1978, this was Bea Arthur's first comeback to a television series. Jerry Stiller, Leonard Stone, and Todd Susman appeared on Amanda's as well. This program was recorded in front of a live studio audience at ABC Studios, 4151 Prospect Avenue, Hollywood, California. ABC did not telecast three additional episodes of Amanda's after it was canceled in May 1983 after a four-month run of 10 episodes. Shortly thereafter, A&E aired replays of the program.
