The Kilcher family and their hamlet outside of Homer, Alaska, are the focus of this documentary. The Kilcher family has resided on their land for four generations, starting with patriarch Yule Kilcher, who arrived from Europe during WWII and is now governed by his sons Otto and Atz Kilcher (singer Jewel's father). The Kilchers' neighbors, the homesteaders, are also featured in the show.
