Mrs. Caldwell, a loving mother with a little son named Alexander, takes in Mamie, an orphan girl who was abused in the orphanage. Mamie falls in love with the lad and gives him the nickname "Zander." When Mrs. Caldwell passes away, the authorities order that the kid be placed in the same orphanage where Mamie was abused. Mamie is terrified and vows to ensure that the boy does not experience the same fate as she did.
