Frank Galvin is a lawyer who has fallen on hard times and is now drinking and driving an ambulance. Mickey Morrissey, a former coworker, reminds him of his responsibilities in a medical malpractice case that he gave to Galvin on a silver platter, with all parties willing to settle out of court. As he stumbles through the preliminary steps, he suddenly realizes that maybe the case should go to court after all, to punish the guilty, get a fair settlement for his clients, and restore his reputation as a lawyer.
