He is a low-ranking samurai in the early 19th century, and he has a difficult time adjusting to his new surroundings. Having lost his wife and having a poor income, Seibei is attempting to care for his two daughters as well as his elderly mother. New opportunities appear to open up when Tomoe, a boyhood friend, returns to Seibei and his daughters' lives, but Seibei is still bound by the samurai code of honor and by his own sense of social precedence as the Japanese feudal system disintegrates.. How can he find a way to do what is best for those he cares about while remaining true to himself?
