Caroline and Lloyd are a married couple who are always at each other's throats and are experts at making biting comments about each other. In fact, they can't stop putting each other down, not even when a gun is pointed at them. Gus, the gunman, is a thief on the run from the police. He takes the couple hostage as an insurance policy and plans to use their home as a hideout. But their constant fighting is more than Gus bargained for, and he has to be the peacemaker for his own sanity. Even worse for Gus, he finds out that he has taken the couple hostage on the night of their big Christmas party, when guests are already on their way. Gus doesn't want to leave Lloyd and Caroline alone, so he goes to the party and acts like he's their marriage counselor. This leads to a lot of funny confusions as both the hostage situation and the marital problems move toward their inevitable end.
