The North Star

The North Star is the story of Benjamin "Big Ben" Jones and Moses Hopkins, two slaves who fled from a Virginia farm in 1849 and found freedom in Buckingham, Pennsylvania. Big Ben's 6 foot 10 inch stature and a record bounty for his safe return make him the primary target of every east coast slave hunter. Their voyage exposes them to danger and abuse, but also to the unexpected goodwill of the Underground Railroad's participants. These encounters will forever alter Ben and Moses. Ben and Moses experience life as free men after reaching the relative safety of Mt. Gilead Church on Buckingham Mountain, where they meet historical personalities such as Frederick Douglass, Harriet Tubman, Joshua and Jonathan Fell.
