Prospero, a Satanist, invites the nobility of his home town to his castle in order to protect them from the Red Death, which is approaching. It is ordered that all of his guests come to a masked ball, and, amid the drunkenness and depravity of the occasion, a hooded stranger clad entirely in red enters through the front door. Prospero is frightened when the figure reveals himself to be the figure he believes to be his master, Satan, as he believes the figure to be.
