The Man Who Laughs
Gwynplaine, Lord Clancharlie's son, has a permanent smile carved on his face by the King in retaliation for his father's treachery. Gwynplaine is adopted by a traveling showman and rises to prominence as a popular idol. He falls in love with Dea, a blind man. After the king dies, his evil jester attempts to destroy or corrupt Gwynplaine.
