The Man in the Sky
Test pilot John Mitchell blames himself for the failure of his efforts to provide a better life for his wife Mary and two children. It's time for Mitchell to take a Conway Aero-Manufacturing Company of Wolverhampton rocket-propelled transport jet on a test flight that includes two high-ranking government officials, Crabtree and Ashmore. If Ashmore doesn't approve the plane, Mitchell will lose his job and the company would go out of business. The jet isn't even insured, and the company has invested its entire money in it. Mitchell refuses to comply with orders to abandon the plane in the Irish Sea, despite the fact that an engine on board has caught fire.
