One North Carolina farmer in 1815 is the subject of August King's Journey, an 1815 historical thriller. Once per year, August King heads back to his farm to sell his crops and stock up on supplies for the winter, just like every year. It is August King's decision whether or not to break the law and help a runaway slave to freedom or leave her in the hands of her slave master, who would eventually find them and return them.
