François, a twenty-year-old misfit, makes a living by collecting boxes and bottles to resell to local shopkeepers. He lives with his obnoxious mother and stepfather. Mado is an oddball 11-year-old who is shunned by her family due to the peculiar way she communicates her emotions. François kidnaps Mado and takes her to live in the attic of his parents' house for reasons that are never revealed. Instead of being afraid, Mado falls into the spirit of the kidnapping, and the two joust with one another, growing in love and comfort with one another. When the cops arrive, they have a completely different interpretation of their actions. The plot of this drama is based on a true story.
