Harry Fertig (Kinglsey) takes matters into his own hands after his young son dies as a result of the negligence of medical professionals at a hospital. Fertig's case is assigned to slick lawyer Roy Bleakie (Baldwin), who is only interested in winning the case and is unconcerned about the issues involved. When he learns that his client wishes to plead guilty, Bleakie begins to question his own morals for defending an honorable man.
