Freddie is a hopeless bank employee with no prospects. His sole pastime is butterfly collection, which provides him with a sense of power and control that he lacks in other areas of his life. He acquires a substantial sum of money and purchases a country house for himself. Still unable to socialize, he begins planning to acquire female companions in the same way he collects butterflies. He transforms the house's cellar into a collection jar and stalks his victim for several days.
