Young Alec is fascinated by a mysterious Arabian stallion who is brought on board and stabled in the ship he is sailing on while traveling with his father. Both he and the horse survive the ship's tragic sinking, only to be stranded on a barren island. When they are finally rescued, he befriends it, and they return to his home, where they meet Henry Dailey, a former successful trainer. Together, they begin training the horse to compete against the world's fastest.
