Walter Black (Mel Gibson), the CEO of a toy manufacturer, uses a beaver hand puppet to help him open up to his family while suffering from a severe bout of depression. Porter (Anton Yelchin), an adolescent boy, wants his parents to separate because his father appears to be going nuts. In this dark comedy, which also stars Riley Thomas Stewart and Jennifer Lawrence, Jodie Foster directs and co-stars as Walter's wife.
