The Bang Bang Club
In the early to mid-1990s, when the South African apartheid system was in its death throes, four photographers - Greg Marinovich, Kevin Carter, Ken Oosterbroek, and Joo Silva - united by their friendship and a shared sense of purpose, worked together to document the violence and upheaval leading up to Nelson Mandela's election as president in 1994. The nature of their employment is high-risk and perilous, with the potential for tragic consequences, as they are thrown into the center of chaotic fights between troops sponsored by the government (including Inkatha Zulu warriors) and those supporting Nelson Mandela's African National Congress.
