Royal Opera House: The Sleeping Beauty

The Sleeping Beauty holds a special place in The Royal Ballet's repertory. It was the ballet with which the Company reopened the Royal Concert hall in 1946 after The Second World War, its very first manufacturing at its new home in Covent Yard. Margot Fonteyn danced the function of the gorgeous Princess Aurora in the first performance, with Robert Helpmann as Royal Prince Florimund. Sixty years later on, in 2006, the original 1946 staging was revitalized by then Supervisor of The Royal Ballet Monica Mason and Christopher Newton, returning Oliver Messel's remarkable designs and glimmering costumes to the stage.
