Troublemaking youngster Jim Stark is meant to have a clean slate after moving to a new town, but being the new boy in town carries its own set of challenges. While looking for solace, Stark bonds with a troubled classmate named Plato and falls for a local girl named Judy. Judy, on the other hand, is the girlfriend of Buzz, the neighborhood tough. When Buzz approaches Jim angrily and challenges him to a drag race, the new kid's real problems begin.
