Rwanda, 1973. Young Rwandan girls receive an education at the illustrious catholic institution known as "Notre-Dame du Nil," which is situated on a hill. Their goal is to one day become members of Rwanda's ruling class. They all live in the same dorm while they are working toward the same goal of graduation, and they all deal with the same issues that teenage females face. But in every nook and cranny of the country, as well as within the walls of the school, there are deep animosities that will irrevocably alter the course of these young women's lives as well as the fate of the entire nation.
