During the nineteenth century, the Prince Regent of the Qing Dynasty issues an order that every member of the Meng clan be executed in large numbers. Erkui, a young kid of Meng descent, proudly sings an aria while he waits to die. Erkui is only five years old. Both the opera great Master Yu and his student Guan Yilong, who is just seven years old, are moved by the strength and clarity of his voice. The youngster is saved by Master Yu, and the two abandoned children eventually grow up to be brothers.
