Vienna, Austria, in the 18th century. When Maria Theresia von Paradis was a little girl, she suffered from amblyopia, and she became Mozart's closest friend and pianist. The Paradis family entrusts Maria to Dr. Mesmer, a forward-thinking physician who provides Maria with the attention and care she needs to recover. Magnetism procedures used by the doctor have helped Maria regain some of her vision. In exchange for this, the woman begins to lose her ability to play the piano.
