Elliot Gould plays Alfred Chamberlain, a once-proud photographer who has fallen on hard times since he began removing people from his photographs. He is also unable to feel or be passionate about anything. But then Alfred meets Patsy Newqvist, who takes it upon herself to shape Alfred into "a strong, vital, self-assured man, that I can protect and take care of."
