Ironweed
Albany, the capital of New York State, Halloween, 1938. Francis Phelan and Helen Archer are squatters in their hometown of New York City, where they were born and raised. A radio star and a major league pitcher met on the sidelines of a major league game. They are surrounded by death: she is sick, a friend has cancer, and he digs graves at the cemetery and visits the grave of his son, whom he dropped when he was a baby. Visions of his past haunt him, including the ghosts of two men he killed. Helen tries her hand at singing at a pub the following night while she and her friends are drinking. The next day, Fran goes to see his wife and kids and meets a grandson. He could stay, but he decides it's not for him. Helen is in charge of retrieving their belongings from storage and making hotel reservations. It examines their code of fairness and loyalty in the midst of their faults and dereliction.
