High school basketball coach Charlie Fitzpatrick has amassed the most wins in school history in the state of Georgia. Even while many of his players consider him to be a father figure, he has a tense relationship with his own "bookworm" son, Evan. As advised by his wife, Laura, and Evan's wife, Heather, Charlie determines that the best way to reconnect and bond with his son and grandson, Markie, who has just announced that he is dropping out of college to tour with his folk band, is to take them on a weekend retreat to a rustic mountain cabin. It's just that this cabin happens to be the same location where he took his numerous winning teams to put their mettle to the test on a difficult military-style obstacle course—the same one Evan never had the opportunity to finish as a student. This is Charlie's notion of a good time, Evan's concept of a nightmare, and Markie's idea of-well, he's young and idealistic, so he's simply going with the flow for the moment.
