When Charlie the Tramp stumbles into a mission, he is smitten by Edna and returns the collection box he has stolen. He becomes a cop after being reformed and is assigned to the rough-and-tumble Easy Street. He puts Eric's head in a gas pipe and anesthetizes him because he is unable to trick or beat Eric the Tough. As a hero, he now assists many poor people on Easy Street. Eric escapes from prison, Edna is kidnapped, but Charlie (recharged by sitting on a doper's needle) triumphs over all. Eric, like Easy Street, has been transformed.
