While traversing the desert, Jess Remsberg, a frontier scout, rescues Ellen Grange from a pursuing gang of Apaches and delivers her to her husband, Willard Grange. He has been contracted to operate as a scout for a cavalry regiment of the Army. Willard, Ellen, and her young boy are on board, as is horse trader Toller, a 10th Cavalry veteran. Chata, an Apache chief and grandfather of Ellen's infant, traps the party in a gorge. Willard is apprehended and subjected to torturous interrogation. Jess flees and returns moments later with reinforcements in time to save the day. Jess discovers that the individual he has been stalking is none other than Willard Grange.
