Lucy, who is 17 years old, has been severely separated from her friends for years, reluctant to let anybody approach her home in order to conceal her family's secret: the mountain of goods that fills every nook and cranny of her residence. While managing her mother Joanna's hoarding disorder, she secretly plots her escape to college. Joanna, an outwardly highly functioning nurse, maintains the dysfunction in their family with an obsessive grip; but, following a catastrophe, Lucy must decide whether she will keep her mother's secret hidden or reveal it to the public.
